Our next Customer Spotlight shines on Arizona State Parks and Trails, who recently had some custom pin button boxes made for their retail shops. These button boxes feature stunning photos of scenery and wildlife that can be seen at some of Arizona’s state parks, as well as some fun outdoor themed graphics. Who is Arizona State Parks and Trails?

Arizona State Parks and Trails (ASPT) is an organization that maintains and preserves several of Arizona’s natural parks and trails for the public to enjoy. Hiking trails, camping grounds, and recreational lakes include some of the many types of facilities they also manage.

ASPT also helps develop outdoor recreational areas within cities and towns across the state. These include hiking trails, playgrounds, picnic areas, sport-related courts, and more! This helps encourage people to engage in more outdoor activities, and gets both locals and travelers alike outside to enjoy what Arizona has to offer.

They also work to keep historical records of artifacts and events within each park they manage.  This information is important to keep track of, as each new find reveals more details about the historic past of Arizona’s land and the cultures that have lived here. What is The Daily Bread Watch?

The Daily Bread Watch (TDBW) is an online platform bringing news to high school and college students that allows them to think about what they are reading and how it shapes their daily lives. Each day different news articles are chosen by fellow students and teachers. These articles each have a brief introduction into the article with an engaging question for the reader to consider before continuing to read the full article. Once the reader has finished the article, they can post on the blog and read what others around the country have also thought about the story.

TDBW was created by a high school business/marketing teacher to help make talking about daily news stories more engaging to high school and college students. He noticed his students were not excited to find and read about the news during their daily bell-work, and set out to create a fun and entertaining way to encourage research and  discussion about current events. 

What is in The Daily Bread Watch?

TDBW is delivered to students daily via email and is laid out into sections, starting with the stock market recap that provides an explanation of what happened in the market the day before, and what to expect for the upcoming day.

The Half Loaf is a short student written article (or two) about a current topic happening in the news. It then asks a thought-provoking question to promote higher level thinking and discussion among students.

The Bread Crumbs includes a look back at a news story occurring on that day exactly one year ago, and encourages reflection on how the event affected them while it occurred versus their opinion in the present day.

The format of TDBW is a great choice for bell-work or assignments in a discussion board (like Canvas or a similar LTM). Students will have new topics every day to discuss and respond to, encouraging them to stay engaged in the news. This not only helps them broaden their vernacular and though processes, but it also allows them to explore new ideas and examine how their lives can be impacted.

Using Buttons For Social Distancing

One thing that we have learned so far from 2020 is the importance of taking care of ourselves and those around us. Not only mentally, but physically when it comes to taking health precautions. As a company, we have made it a priority to ensure that our employees are up to date on hand washing procedures, refrain from touching their face, and do not come to work if they are sick.

We encourage all of our customers to be safe, and our pin-back buttons can help remind others about practicing safe interactions during this time. With our buttons it is easy and quick to communicate to others that someone is avoiding direct physical contact, while avoiding awkward interactions or explanations. It will be much easier for their peers to respect their boundaries, as the visual message will be communicated even without being verbally mentioned.

Wearing a button stating that someone is practicing social distancing or not shaking hands is a clear non-verbal safeguard and is helpful when others may not necessarily want, or be able, to explain their situation. That way, there is no awkwardness and people are able to respect the personal space of others. This is not just relevant for the current pandemic of COVID-19 and the annual flu season, but also for those who may not shake hands or have other reasons for social distancing.

What is “Social Distancing”?

Social distancing is a term used to describe when an individual begins to distance themselves from social situations where groups of people may congregate. This includes activities like attending sports games, going out with friends to restaurants, or going to the movies. In our home state of Arizona there are currently recommendations to cancel or postpone mass gatherings of over 50 people, and the President of the United States has recently advised avoiding groups of over 10 people.

It is important to note that social distancing does allow for essential tasks to be made, like buying groceries or going to work. The key idea is to keep a larger than normal space between yourself and your peers when outside of your home, and then remaining inside your home as much as possible. Avoiding situations where there are a lot of people in one area can help prevent the spread of illness, as there are fewer people in one spot for an illness to infect.

Why are These Buttons Important?

Although flu season occurs every year, this season there is also a COVID-19 pandemic. Since flu season is annual, individuals do not always take caution when it comes to the health and safety of others. Our pin-back buttons can be attached to nearly every piece of clothing: shirts, hats, or bags. The sizes range from 7/8” all the way to 6” in various shapes like rectangles, squares, ovals, and circles. This type of button backing is considered the traditional/standard backing.

Clothing Magnets

We offer several types of clothing magnet backings for our buttons, which suit a variety of situations. The first is a small round clothing magnet for our smaller sized buttons. Although small in size, they are powerful and will definitely stay in place!

The second is a clothing bar magnet that is excellent for larger buttons that may pull on clothing due to their weight. These magnets are also able to stick on surfaces that are magnetic, like refrigerators.

Bulldog Clips

Our bulldog clips can be easily attached to ID tags, which makes them perfect for anyone who does not want several buttons on your shirt.

How Can These Buttons be Sold in Stores?

One way these buttons can be sold in the form of our button boxes. Our button boxes provide a quality impulse purchase for consumers, and are perfect for placing on your check out counters.

The MSRP is 3 for $5, or 1 for $1.99. These boxes are designed to have 88 buttons, with the attached backer card, per box. The backers of our custom buttons and boxes can be designed to your preferences. In the case of the “Help Stop The Spread” buttons, they come pre-designed, with a retail and fundraiser option to choose from. Fundraiser boxes, or FunD for short, help raise money for the CDC Foundation, which is working hard to stop the spread of COVID-19. If you have a favorite charity/non-profit you would like to raise money for, our FunD boxes can be customized with the organization of your choice.

For large volume orders, button boxes can also be customized with your company logos.

Where do these buttons come from?

We are proud that all of our products are made in the USA and have no foreign components. Everything from the metal button parts to the graphics printing is made in the USA, and every button is assembled at our facility in Phoenix, Arizona. Americans Prefer Products Made in the U.S.A.

In a survey conducted by the Consumer Reports, 78 percent of Americans prefer U.S.- made goods and would pay more for these goods, including cars, tracks and motorcycles, food, and large appliances. The people who responded to the survey cited patriotic reasons for buying American made goods. People want to keep manufacturing jobs at home, help the U.S. economy, keep America strong in the global economy, and buying made in America products made them feel more patriotic. More than 68 percent of all respondents indicated they’d buy American-made clothes and appliances even if those cost 10 percent more than imported versions; more than 25 percent said they’d pay at least an extra 20 percent. Price is one of the main drawbacks to buying U.S.-made products however. More than half of the respondents said they consider American made goods to be costly.

Posted on the website MadeInUSAForever.com, these are the top ten reasons to buy USA made products:

  1. Foreign labor standards allow unsafe conditions in many countries.
  2. Jobs shipped abroad almost never return.
  3. US manufacturing processes are much cleaner for the environment than many other countries.
  4. Many countries have no minimum wage restrictions, or the minimum wage is outrageously low.
  5. The growing lack of USA ability to manufacture many products is strategically unsound.
  6. The huge US trade deficit leads to massive, unsustainable borrowing from other countries.
  7. Foreign product safety standards are low.
  8. Lack of minimum wage, worker safety, or environmental pollution controls in many countries undermines the concept of ‘fair and free trade’.
  9. Factories and money are shifting to countries not friendly to the USA or democracy.
  10. As the US manufacturing ability fades, future generations of US citizens will be unable to find relevant jobs.

Recently announced presidential candidate Donald Trump also prefers American made products. He fears that China is taking all of our jobs in the U.S. China is able to manufacture products for pennies where as our costs are dollars. His theme is ‘Make America Great Again’ and he wants to start by bringing back real jobs into the United States like it used to be.
