4 Design Tips for Your Buttons

When it comes to designing your button, it may seem pretty straightforward – you send us the artwork you want and we print it for production. Wrong. It is actually more complicated that that. Luckily our in house art department has provided us with a few tips for when it comes to your button design.

  1. Less is More

Graphics that have a ton of information or pictures are often distracting. When it comes to your design it is best to use the less is more rule. Think like the great brands can be instantly recognized by logos or slogans, like Nike, Adidas, Coca Cola, etc. They practice the less is more, with eye catching colors, and minimal designs.

  1. Let Your Design Breathe

While creating your button occurs in a 2-D space, your buttons are not. On paper it may look great to have the design going right up to the edge while looking at the image flat, buttons aren’t a completely flat surface. Especially when it comes to text, it’s best to have it closer to your design that the edge. It does give you a slightly smaller space to work with, but when the graphics wrap around the button your text will be legible.

  1. Avoid Button Borders

Our graphics are cut by a person, which means that they sometimes have bad cuts and are not perfect 100% of the time. When cutting a slight shift can occur and graphics with a border can appear off center no matter how small the shift. Borders to look great on other printed graphics, but can cause some troubles when producing your buttons. Our button makers are diligent with going through their graphics to ensure only the perfect cuts are being made, but sometimes a shifted graphic can slip through the cracks.

  1. Make Sure to Add Bleed

When it comes to your artwork, adding bleed will make the button look seamless. With artwork that doesn’t have a bleed (like the graphics with borders) it is definitely noticeable with shifting cuts. Our templates have lines that show when your button face will end and where the bleed will extend out.

Luv My Buttons!

Hey Everyone! Some exciting news for Everyone Loves Buttons and we wanted to share it with all of you! To follow along with our New Year’s Resolution on our customers receiving great quality products, we have decided that it is time to revamp our social media starting with Twitter. Our first step was to change our Twitter handle from @custombuttons97 to @LuvMyButtons. We felt that our Twitter handle should reflect how we feel about buttons and We Love Buttons! We also want to hear from you, our customer, on how we did and we would like to see pictures of your buttons in action. This led us to an idea for our very first Twitter campaign. It’s going to be launching soon so stay tuned on our blog, Facebook, and Twitter for the launch date. Alright now here’s our idea: When you order custom buttons from us we will put an insert in the box with our Twitter handle (@LuvMyButtons) and #LuvMyButtons. If you send us a tweet with a picture of your buttons and use the #LuvMyButtons, we will send you a coupon code to use for your next custom button purchase. That’s it! Send us a pic with the hashtag and tag us and you get to save money on your next purchase. Who doesn’t like to save money? One last piece of news, we are going to start blogging twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting next week. On Thursdays we would love to start sharing your button pictures and tweets once the campaign launches. As always we would love to hear from you whether it’s a comment, a question, or a concern (hopefully there aren’t any of these). From your friend in the button business, have a great Friday and #LuvMyButtons!

What’s Hot? Summer Buttons!

It’s finally summertime! The kids are out of school, temperatures are rising, and things are very busy here at Everyone Loves Buttons. We are located in Phoenix, AZ and our summers here get more than a little hot. We experience frequent temperatures well above 110 degrees. Some days it feels like you’re going to melt when you step outside. Thank goodness for air conditioning and indoor events during the summer months! From trade shows to festivals, there are ways to stay cool for the summer months, not just in Arizona but also across the U.S. The buttons we make this time of year generally reflect our clients’ summer activities. We recently made promotional buttons for the upcoming Port Ludlow Festival by the Bay in Seattle, WA as well as First Fridays, which celebrate the arts in Tulsa, OK. There are also a variety of summer competitions, which include dance, rodeos and tractor pulls. We also fulfill orders for summer trade shows, conferences and award shows. It’s fun to see the different buttons for awareness walks. We recently did a button for the upcoming annual AIDS WALK in San Francisco, which is a 6.2-mile walk to support raising money for people in need of HIV/AIDS services. Buttons are a great retail addition that can help drive summertime restaurant or car sales. New menu items may be advertised or a ‘beat the heat’ sale may be offered. Our summertime July special is on 3.5″ or 4″ round buttons. Any purchase will include a next quantity pricebreak. This means that if you order 50 buttons you get them for the per piece price of 100 buttons. We hope you will take advantage of our July special. Whether you are stay-cationing or vacationing this summer, check out all the fun events, sales, and, of course, BUTTONS! Stay safe and have a blast this summer.

It’s Cinco de Mayo May 5th a Festive time to Celebrate!

It’s May 5th Cinco de Mayo

On Cinco de Mayo, most Americans think of margaritas, Mexican food, and mariachi bands, but what is Cinco de Mayo actually about? Surprisingly it is a misconception that Cinco de Mayo is Mexican Independence Day, when in all actuality it is to celebrate the Mexican victory over France at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Great Britain, Spain, and France had invaded Mexico in late 1861, but Spain and Great Britain pulled out within six months. France decided to take advantage of the chaos happening north of the Mexican border where the U.S. Civil War was taking place. The battle was a classic David-over-Goliath victory for the small town of Puebla against Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Napoleon’s French forces. Though Americans in the western states have been celebrating Cinco de Mayo practically since the battle ended, it was largely an unknown celebration in most parts of the U.S. until the 1960s. This is when Mexican-American activists started raising its profile by celebrating it and their pride in the community. Today it happens to be the biggest non-winter drinking day of the year, and it’s in the top five drinking holidays in general. Traditionally, Cinco de Mayo celebrations include parades, mariachi music performances, and street festivals in cities and towns across Mexico and the United States. So for this Cinco de Mayo, enjoy some authentic Mexican food like mole poblano, and celebrate this holiday full of culture and heritage. If you plan to enjoy the holiday at a restaurant, keep an eye out for buttons that the servers often wear to celebrate this festive holiday.

FLU SHOT SEASON ARRIVES AT ELBusa

FLU SHOT SEASON ARRIVES AT ELBusa

Look out for the Flu Shot Pinback Buttons at stores near you!

ELB recognizes the onset of flu season from the customized flu shot button orders we get in from the health care industry. The season begins in October and officially ends in May. Therefore, hospitals, drug stores and other health care organizations take the opportunity to market the availability of flu shots. Today we have easy access to flu vaccines from virtually nearly every drug store and even Wal-mart as the retail health care market emerges. Although the CDC recommends annual flu shots to Americans, there has been major controversy about the effectiveness of receiving these shots even within the medical community. Some say they may hurt us more than help us in the long run and perhaps weaken the immune system. Others swear by them. At the root of the controversy, lies the presence or absence of Thimerosal. This property contains a trace amount of mercury which acts as a preservative in multi use flu shots and prevents bacterial contamination. There are a variety of flu vaccine formats and even one comes in a nasal spray form. Shots may also differ in that some prevent two or even up to four flu strains. According to the literature, selecting a single dose unit may be the safest way to go since Thimerosal is absent and therefore no mercury. One can find a list of brands that produce single dose unit shots on the internet. According to the CDC, during a 31 year span, flu related deaths ranged from 3000 to 49,000 people. The majority of deaths occurred when the individual was 65+. Of course, some people may suffer such severe symptoms that they may require hospitalization. In summary, there are flu shot options as well as pros and cons to getting a flu shot. Will you be getting yours this year?
