As a nationally certified woman-owned business, Everyone Loves Buttons would like to share some statistics about breast cancer in preparation for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
According to breastcancer.org, about 1 in every 8 (12%) women develop breast cancer at some point throughout their lifetime. It is not limited to women, but it is a much more common occurrence among the female gender. In America, breast cancer ranks second behind only a couple forms of skin cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women. Aside from lung cancer, breast cancer death rates are higher than any other cancer among women in the United States.
Needless to say, breast cancer is a big deal in the U.S. and across the world. The problem is that most people aren’t educated enough on the matter, which prevents those individuals from detecting the disease early on causing the cancer to spread prior to diagnosis. This is why October is so important in terms of spreading the word about breast cancer.
In today’s day and age, it is much easier to spread awareness with the likes of the Internet and more specifically social media. As for breast cancer awareness, the pink movement has been expanding over the last few decades. All of your favorite NFL players sport their hot pink cleats, gloves, socks, and towels throughout the month of October to help raise awareness about the disease. DeAngelo Williams, running back for the Pittsburgh Steelers, even dies some of his braids pink for the entirety of the NFL season in support of his mother’s battle with breast cancer.
There is always more that we can do to combat an illness like cancer, but the little things like wearing pink and supporting the fight can help build the foundation for a better tomorrow.
Did you or a loved one beat cancer? Customize your own button to celebrate the triumphant victory. Is a coach or player going through the fight? Create your own custom Zipper Pull® to clip to your team jackets, backpacks or gym bags. Our Zipper Pulls® now include the option of a custom hot pink Versa Back®, which is the back of the Zipper Pull®, to help tie the Breast Cancer Awareness theme together. We also create custom car magnets, fridge magnets, bumper stickers, and more.
So whether you have family that has been through the fight, friends battling the disease or you yourself have been affected by breast cancer, there is always something we can do to spread awareness.
