Customer Spotlight – TERP Parent and Family Affairs

Customer Spotlight TERP Parent and Family Affairs University of Maryland Just because your high school graduate is going to college doesn’t mean you need to be out of the loop! This is what TERP Parent and Family Affairs set out to do. They wanted to make sure that the parents of both current students and incoming students were up to date on current information about the campus events, news, guidance, and help provide a support system for the students. TERP Parent and Family Affairs recognizes that college is a big step in a person’s life and that a support system needs to be in place for the success of the student. By teaming up with the University of Maryland, TERP Parent and Family Affairs enables parents to get involved in the community while supporting their children through their college adventure. The Office of Parent and Family Affair’s mission is to provide parents and family members an opportunity to play an active, supporting role in the education of their student; to provide a forum for fellowship and networking with other families; and to further the educational goals of the University of Maryland by improving communication between parents and the University community, (University of Maryland Office of Parent and Family Affairs, 2014). TERP Parent and Family Affairs strives to inform and educate families about the valuable resources offered, critical issues, and topics that are relevant to the success of their students. The Office of Parents and Family Affairs publishes articles for parents and families to learn how to help their student succeed. These articles range on subjects from talking to your student about alcohol, parenting, adjustment to college life, nutrition and eating disorders. Parents UMD students can sign up for free as a member of the Parents Association. Membership includes connections to campus professionals and staff, online resources, eConnection electronic newsletter, news and safety notifications, Terrapin Parent handbook, campus and volunteer opportunities, and a proud parent car magnet! In addition, TERP Parent and Family Affairs also features a FAQ section on their website for questions about academics, health, housing, and safety and transportation.
